We have started our new unit learning about sculptures. We looked at some pictures of famous sculptures and talked about what we thought about them. We then learned how to make paper cylinders and attach them to a cardboard base.

We wrote prayers to the Holy Spirit asking for guidance on how to live like Jesus. We then read these prayers out in our beautiful Peace Garden.

We learned how to cut out and use a paper template to shape fabric and also how to join two pieces of fabric together using glue or staples. We had a design brief from a librarian, Mr Page-Turner who wanted some fairy tale character puppets for children to use in the library. We then evaluated our designs against the design criteria.

Year 1 explored the story of Pentecost. We acted it out, retold it to each other and then thought about how special the gift of the Holy Spirit is. We looked at some artwork representing Pentecost and the Holy Spirit and then made our own pieces to show our feelings about this special gift and what it means to us. We made headbands to show that we also have been given the gift of The Holy Spirit.

We have been learning how how to use a computer to write. We made missing posters for a teddy bear! We learned about different fonts, how to change the colour and size of fonts. We even learned how to insert an image.

Year 2 - RE - Praying the Rosary 1st May 2026

Now that we are in May, we focus on Our Lady. We looked at what the Rosary is and how we pray a 'decade'. We looked at our statue of Mary in the Peace Garden and we used the stones to pray with our class rosaries.

For our DT unit we are designing a mindfulness timer, part of that is being able to program the microbit to be able to countdown for a certain amount of time.

Year 1 showed their fantastic knowledge of the Scripture we have studied so far this year by matching stories about Jesus to the pictures. They then chose some of the stories to reflect on - in any creative way they wished. There was lovely rich discussions about their developing understanding of Jesus and their own beliefs.

We have been looking at aerial photographs and maps of the local area around the school. We looked at the different land uses and decided that most of the land around the school is used for residential properties. We then went on a fieldwork walk around the school to look at the land use in the local area. We decided that it was mainly residential, with some economic businesses closeby.

We all grow differently, just like a sunflower! Year 1 are very lucky to have so many different children in the class and we know that everyone is special and it is ok to be different. We made sunflowers as they all grow differently. We also planted a sunflower seed each and took them home to care for. We will watch our class ones carefully. We also gifted Year 5 with a sunflower seed to watch grow too.

Year 1 made their fruit pots. They watched carefully how to use a knife and fork in a safe way to chop their fruit into bite-sized pieces. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed tasting our pots afterwards!

We have been given the design brief to design and make a fruit pot to sell at the Summer Fair. The children have looked at current products already on sale and designed some packaging. Today, the children tasted different fruits and decided if they would work well together in their pot. They then designed their final recipe for the fruit pots that they will make later in the week.

We have started to learn about the different ways scientists can sort animals. We had a go sorting some animals ourselves. Ideas were number of legs, how they move, where they live. We then looked at animals that were wild or animals that could be pets. We have now started looking at mammals, birds, reptiles, fish and amphibians.

Year 1 have been working so hard to be able to log onto the ChromeBooks independently, to be able to use the trackpad and to be able to find work on Google Classroom. We are now learning more about how to paint digitally. Everyone tested out the different tools by drawing a portrait of themselves!

Miss Clapp gave the children a challenge. The robot factory doors are 20 units tall. The children had to see how many robots they could build that were lower than this so the robots could fit through. The children did a great job and some could quickly tell Miss Clapp the tallest and smallest robot possible by adding the greatest and smallest numbers. Well done, everyone!

We have been learning about circuit training in PE. The children have learned about how we can balance. We tried to balance a beanbag on different parts of our bodies and then tried to balance on a beam. Some of us challenged ourselves by walking sideways or even backwards!
