Year 1 have been learning about Easter and its importance to Christianity. The children have explored the events we remember in Holy Week and enjoyed linking this to what they see and hear in Mass. We used colour mixing to create some paintings of the crucifixion.

We have been learning all about the Christmas story in R.E. In English, we decided we wanted to retell this story! We used the characters to practise retelling the story to each other and some of us did this using the visualiser on the big board!

The children have had lots of fun celebrating the festival of lights. They learnt all about the story of Rama and Sita and how the festival is celebrated. They made lamps, decorated their hands, made their own decorations, listened to music and danced.

We have been learning about the importance of stories passed down through generations in all religions. We learned that the story of Moses leading his people to freedom is very important to Jews. We retold the story using finger puppets that we made!

We learned that Psalms are song prayers and that there are 150 in the Bible. We read Psalm 63, where it says God looks after us like a mother bird looks after their chicks. We thought of other baby animals that we could use in this Psalm and recreated some scenes to use with the Psalm.

We have been learning about temptation and the resisting of temptation in RE. We revisited the story of Judas' betrayal and discussed possible motives for this. We then ranked them in different ways: most likely to least likely, ones that we were most sympathetic of to least, for example.

We compared different artists' depictions of The Last Supper and compared them with the Gospel according to Luke. We noticed that Judas wore yellow in a lot of the paintings and learned that this is a colour associated with him and betrayal and jealousy.
