Science stimulates and excites pupils’ curiosity about phenomena and events in the world around them. It also satisfies this curiosity with knowledge. Because science links direct practical experience with ideas, it can engage learners at many levels.

Scientific method is about developing and evaluating explanations through experimental evidence and modelling. This is a spur to critical and creative thought. Through science, pupils understand how major scientific ideas contribute to technological change – impacting on industry, business and medicine and improving quality of life.

Pupils recognise the cultural significance of science and trace its worldwide development. They learn to question and discuss science-based issues that may affect their own lives, the direction of society and the future of the world.

Our Science Intent

At St Francis Catholic Primary School, Braintree, our intent is to deliver a great Science curriculum that ignites curiosity, develops scientific thinking, and fosters a deep understanding of scientific concepts. Our aim is to provide all pupils with a solid foundation in Science, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in the wider world.

Green Fingers In Year 2

Today we set up our plastic bag green houses and began our journey of growing Broad Bean. First of all we talked about why seeds are important. We used the book ￿Christopher Nibble￿ by Charlotte Middleton which is about a guinea pig and his friends and family who eat too many dandelions and end up having to eat chewy cabbage as the dandelions run out. Christopher saves the day by looking after the seeds from the one plant that is left and growing many dandelions from them.
